What is Ambient Computing?
Ambient Computing is a synergy of different technologies complementing each other to produce results via adaptive recognition of behaviors and suggestions, creating patterns.
Ambient Computing pertains to the mix of hardware and software technology, as well as user experience, machine learning, and machine/human interaction akin to an artificial intelligence functions, but only much broader.
As defined, “ambient” means “relating to the immediate surroundings of something”. Hence, Ambient Computing is a synergy of different technologies complementing each other to produce results via adaptive recognition of behaviors and suggestions, creating patterns. Patterns are perceived as repetitive encounters which are then analyzed to create automated results, sans the usual need for programming.
Have you ever wondered whenever you select a food in an app and it automatically suggests different food places and options, without you actually checking every place suggested? This is basic ambient computing. When you use a food/delivery application (software) in a device (hardware such as mobile phones/gadgets) and type in in your orders (human interaction), the app sort of identifies your order as a “keyword” then works its way through the strings of related data in its realm, producing results closely related to the nature of your chosen food order. The app automatically suggests other possible choices based on recent history of transactions. It even recognizes the time when the app is used which could flash food options perfect for lunch or dinner.
Ambient computing is a result of improvement of technology such as machine learning programming language, Artificial intelligence (AI) powered cloud providers, advance hardware features of a smart phone, 5G internet and more.
Ambient computing is the future and we will be seeing more of them.
